OUR STORY

Hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors is in our DNA.

Most of our life we’ve explored the outdoors on foot with heavy packs.  Our backpacking constraint was always how much gear we could bring, which limited how far we could go and how long we could camp.  Our desire to go deeper into the wilderness began the search for other options.

At first horses seemed like the best option for us, although after a few hunting pack trips with horses we found that horses from start to finish required a lot of time and energy and didn’t fit our mobile style of hunting.  In 2012, we rented 3 llamas for the first time on an archery elk hunting trip in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.  With no experience around llamas, we had no idea what we were in for, but found they were calm and very easy to work with.  They required less feed, water and were simply low maintenance animals with good endurance and ability to pack plenty of weight.  This allowed us to spend more time exploring with better comfort and food at camp!

After renting llamas for several more expeditions, it became hard to imagine our trips without them. The fireside conversation began and we decided to purchase our first llamas, shortly thereafter purchasing females for breeding and starting Oregon Pack Llamas.

Without our pack llamas, we would never have set eyes on some of the most gorgeous scenery in the Pacific Northwest. They’ve given us the confidence to push our explorations to the limit, going further than we otherwise could on our own. The Ccara Llama has been a packing companion for thousands of years dating back to the Inca Tribes, so one might say that they’re well prepared for your next adventure.
